150Y Jenny Thomson

In August 2024, we proudly celebrated 150 years of unwavering dedication, care and compassion for our community, provided through Horsham’s Wimmera Base Hospital.

From its beginnings as the Horsham District Hospital in 1874, to becoming the Wimmera Base Hospital, and later forming part of Wimmera Health Care Group and now Grampians Health - a lot has changed over the years, but what has always remained is the care and service provided to the Horsham community and the broader Wimmera region.

Today, the Wimmera Base Hospital boasts an incredible team of over 1100 staff, dedicated to quality patient care and community health.

Our celebration

Activities that ran over the year to celebrate this milestone include:

  • Creation of a Memory Book for staff and community members to contribute to
  • Collection of old photos and stories from staff and community to help preserve the memories of the last 150 years
  • Healthcare Harrie colouring competition, engaging our young community members with our 150 year celebration
  • Celebration event held on 27 August for past and present staff, volunteers and board members, life governors and friends of the hospital. A plaque was unveiled to mark the occasion.

Thank you to everyone who contributed or took part in our celebration!
