Nursing staff across the Wimmera Health Care Group will be recognised on Monday May 12 as the organisation celebrates International Nurses’ Day, which is held around the world each year on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. In 2014, International Nurses’ Day has the theme of “Nurses: A Force for Change – A vital resource for health”.

Chief Executive Chris Scott said the efforts of Wimmera Health Care Group’s nursing staff deserved to be recognised.

“Our nursing staff across acute, sub-acute, residential and primary care services delivers a consistently high level of professional health care to patients across the Wimmera.  The expert care and attention our nurses provide, often in challenging circumstances and amid significant change, is critical to maintaining the high quality of our health services ” Mr Scott said.

“Wimmera Health Care Group employs over 450 nurses who make up a large proportion of our health care team. Nurses are often the most accessible and in some cases in rural and remote areas, the only available health workers for the local community.”

Mr Scott stated that International Nurse’s ay is the one day of the year that gives us the opportunity to express our thanks and appreciation to our dedicated professional nursing team.
