Wimmera Health Care Group has developed a new volunteering opportunity for community members to give back and make a difference.

CEO Catherine Morley said the new role is for ‘WHCG Guides’ who will offer visitors to Wimmera Health Care Group a friendly welcoming presence and provide information about where to find different services or departments.

“These helpful volunteers will assist visitors, patients and their families with general enquiries, introduce them to team members and escort them to waiting areas when needed,” Ms Morley said.

Initially, the WHCG Guides will be found at the main entrance at Wimmera Base Hospital. It is hoped that more volunteers can be recruited to extend this service to other key entrances and waiting areas at both Horsham and Dimboola campuses.

Wimmera Health Care Group want to recruit as many friendly and people-focused volunteers as possible to this new role. It would particularly suit couples, or former employees of Wimmera Health Care Group, and those who are transitioning into retirement, especially if they have Centrelink reporting requirements under Newstart.

“There are shifts available Monday to Friday, making this opportunity flexible for most volunteers to fit into their lifestyle,” Ms Morley said.

“We hope the first two WHCG Guides, Carol Hill and Sandra Bamkin, will be able to mentor new volunteers into the role by the end of the project pilot period in mid-November.”

People interested in volunteering as a WHCG Guide are invited to contact Stephanie Thomson, Volunteer Program Coordinator at Wimmera Health Care Group on 03 5381 9347, Wednesdays and Fridays.
