Wimmera Health Care Group will start its community COVID vaccination program next week.
After dedicating the first few weeks of vaccination rollout to WHCG team and residents, the COVID vaccine team is ready to begin community vaccinations of Pfizer and AstraZeneca for those eligible.
The team can currently vaccinate anyone over 40 years of age and some younger people including those with disabilities, mental illness, registered carers, emergency service workers and other workers in the high risk groups.
WHCG director of Clinical Improvement, Risk and Innovation Sally Taylor said her team would start vaccinating eligible community members from Tuesday.
“While we are waiting for our community vaccination clinic to be ready, we will use temporary clinic settings, starting with our Day Centre,” Mrs Taylor said.
“The Day Centre is available during the lockdown so starting on Tuesday, we will be vaccinating community members who have booked in for testing and can prove their eligibility,” she said.
“There is strict eligibility criteria and evidence of your eligibility may be needed before you can be vaccinated.
“There are limited spots available for AstraZeneca vaccinations on Tuesday morning and Pfizer vaccinations on Tuesday afternoon and Friday next week.
“Pfizer is only available for eligible people under 50 years of age.”
Mrs Taylor said the establishment of a fixed community vaccination clinic was still a few weeks away.
“In the meantime we will provide as many opportunities for community vaccinations as possible with our limited resources,” she said.
Important to note: Details of eligibility for vaccinations and the necessary evidence to be provided is available on the COVID of the WHCG website – www.whcg.org.au – or you can follow the links from the WHCG Facebook page.
