Wimmera Health Care Group is excited to have filled a range of specialist positions.

Director of medical services, Professor Alan Wolff said Dr Ananda Wijewardana started as an obstetrician gynaecologist in recent months and has now been joined by three more doctors.

“We are very fortunate to have two new general physicians, Dr Damith Kodithuwakku who has come to us from Sri Lanka, and Dr Chris Ebersohn, who has come to us from South Africa,” Prof Wolff said.

“This week we also had a new surgeon start. Mr Ya’acov Leigh is a general surgeon from Oxford, UK.

“Traditionally we have found it difficult to fill these types of roles from within Australia so to have so many new faces is great for the health care group and the community.”

Mr Leigh said he was looking forward to getting to know his new community and getting himself and his family settled.

“My wife and two young sons have come over and we are looking forward to settling in. Everyone has been very friendly and we are looking forward to seeing the Grampians and trying some family friendly walks,” Mr Leigh said.

“There are some big differences between here and Oxford, one being this is a much smaller place so I am enjoying being able to walk to work and the lack of traffic. It will be good to try and become part of the community and get to know patients.”
