Horsham Country Music Festival has donated a further $16,000 to the Wimmera Cancer Centre.

The group donated $17,500 in 2016 after the ‘A Pleasant Sunday Afternoon’ event at Horsham Town Hall and were keen to make another significant contribution, according to festival co-ordinator Lyall Wheaton.

“We have been operating for 12 years, and during that time four members have been impacted by cancer, so it’s a cause close to our hearts,” Mr Wheaton said.

Horsham Country Music Festival committee member Lynda Arthur presented Wimmera Health Care Group CEO, Catherine Morley, with a cheque on Saturday night at the festival.

“I was diagnosed in 2014 and received treatment in the cancer unit here in Horsham in 2014 and 2015,” Mrs Arthur said.

“It was obvious to myself and other patients that the cancer unit in Horsham was overcrowded and a new cancer centre was required.”

The combined donations of $33,500 from Horsham Country Music Festival make them one of the Wimmera Cancer Centres major contributors.

Wimmera Health Care Group CEO Catherine Morley said she and the organisation was extremely grateful for the second donation.

“Attending the festival was a delightful way to spend Saturday night and receiving $16,000 made it even better,” she said.

“We look forward to working with the committee to ensure this significant donation is recognised in the new centre.”
