Continued community support for the Wimmera Cancer Centre has overwhelmed Wimmera Health Care Group.

Last month the State Government announced it would cover the funding shortfall to ensure the cancer centre would be built in one stage.

Acting CEO Mark Knights said since the announcement the community has continued to fundraise for the centre to make sure it is fitted out with the best equipment possible.

"When the funding from the Minister for Health Jill Hennessy was announced it took a lot of pressure off community fundraising as it was no longer about getting the bare minimum funds to build the centre," Mr Knights said.

"But that hasn’t stopped our amazing communities in the Wimmera and Southern-Mallee. People have really listened to our message that all funds raised now will improve the fit out of the centre and they have continued to dig deep with well over $30,000 donated this month.

"We want to say thank you to every single person who has supported this cause."

Business or community groups who have donated in recent weeks include the Horsham Amcal Pharmacy, Powercor, Horsham Angling Club, Horsham Garden Village, Woomelang Bush Nursing Centre, Rotary Club of Horsham East, Sunnyside Lutheran Retirement Village Social Committee, Dimboola Cancer Crusaders, Adelphian Craft and Hobby Shop and the Wimmera Health Care Group Foundation.
