Theatre staff grateful for donation

The Wimmera Base Hospital Ladies Auxiliary have continued their strong fundraising efforts for the Wimmera Health Care Group.

A recent donation allowed the theatre department to purchase a difficult airways trolley and stock it with specific equipment to help patients having difficulty breathing. Theatre operating manager Maree Markby said the difficult airway management trolley was a vital piece of equipment for the hospital.

“This trolley gets used all over the hospital wherever there is a patient with airway management issues,” Mrs Markby said. “It is fully stocked and has some fantastic equipment such as disposable bronchoscopes and two videolaryngoscopes valued at $11,000.

“They allow us to see via video into an airway to see what obstacles may be there. We are so grateful and we want to say thank you to all the auxiliary members for the hard work they put in to raise funds for such wonderful equipment.” Auxiliary president Helen Hounsell was shown the trolley and equipment.

“It is just great from our point of view to see what was purchased and be told how it is used, it really makes it worthwhile and the auxiliary know we are making a difference,” Mrs Hounsell said.
